Language Materials Development Center (LMDC)

To support local language revitalization efforts, ILI has established the Language Materials Development Center (LMDC) to provide multi-media studio tools and training to all Native communities and individuals interested in developing materials and projects for Native language instruction and preservation. The LMDC has three components to deliver these services:

  1. Multi-media technology facility in Santa Fe, NM with equipment, prototype templates and a language materials repository
  2. Community-focused Technology Training Workshops offered in different regions of the U.S. with the goal of expanding the cadre of technology-skilled language teachers and practitioners
  3. Web portal to the LMDC language resources accessible from any site with Internet access.

As a state-of-the-art technology center and language repository serving Native communities nationally, the goals of the LMDC are to:

  1. Provide availability of technology-based templates and models of Native language learning materials
  2. Provide training to increase technology knowledge and skills among Native language teachers, practitioners and learners
  3. Provide access to the use of state-of-the-art equipment to produce Native language materials and products in the textual, audio, video and digital media formats
  4. Provide access through the ILI website to a comprehensive Native language materials resource center including information on ILI training workshops, guidelines on use of software tools and templates, samples of language material prototypes
  5. Provide a networking portal to other Native language people and resources.

ILI acknowledges the support of Administration for Native Americans (ANA) in helping us bring language technology to Indigenous communities across North America.
